TUESDAY FORECAST: We have an interesting, complicated forecast - TopicsExpress

TUESDAY FORECAST: We have an interesting, complicated forecast coming up. Overnight, well have variable clouds with lows in the mid teens to near 20. On Tuesday, a low pressure system will develop to our southeast bringing lots of snow and ice to areas such as Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. There will be some lift over our area with the chance of some snow showers, too. The best chance of snow will be east of I-75 and south of I-40/I-81 along counties that border North Carolina and down toward Chattanooga. Some indications show the possibility of 1-2 of snow in these areas. Notice that I said the possibility. We still have a lot of dry air, and we will not have great lift. However, I believe that the counties bordering North Carolina such as Polk, Monroe, Blount, and Sevier could see some light 1-2 snow with slightly higher amounts in the higher elevations. Areas further south and east in Tennessee will have the best chances of seeing some snow. Knox County looks like it may be on the border of the affected area with southern portions of the county seeing the best chance of snow falling during the day. Theres only going to be a small geographic area affected by this in a short period of time, so uncertainty is still high. Well be watching it very closely. Highs will only be in the upper teens to lower 20s across East Tennessee. Lows will fall into the upper single digits on Tuesday night before highs reach the upper 20s on Wednesday. A warming trend will begin late this week with chance of rain inching into the forecast for Friday and Saturday with highs in the 40s and 50s. Once again, the big story right now will be the extreme cold and watching for the possibility of a narrow band of light snow near the mountains on Tuesday. Well be watching it closely and will keep you updated. -Meteorologist Jeremy Buckles
