TUESDAYS TERRIFIC TASTE TESTER: APPLE CINNAMON FRENCH TOAST From Cheri Fry 5 Tbsp. butter 2 large baking apples, peeled, cored and sliced 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar 2 Tbsp. dark corn syrup 1 tsp. cinnamon 8 (1-inch slices French Bread - 4 wide) 3 large eggs 1 cup milk 1 tsp. vanilla Day before serving: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. add apple slices and cook, stirring occasionally until tender. Add brown sugar, corn syrup & cinnamon; cook stirring until brown sugar dissolves. Pour the apple mixture into a 9x13 inch pan. Spread to an even layer.Arrange bread slices onto the apple mixture. In a medium bowl, with a fork, beat eggs, milk & vanilla until mixed well. Pour over the bread slices. Cover with plastic wrap & refrigerate overnight. Day of serving: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Remove plastic & bake 30-35 minutes or until mixture is firm & bread is golden. Cool in pan for 5 minutes. When serving, invert slices so apples are on top & add any additional apple topping that remains in pan.
