TUNBRIDGE WELLS update: Police say they are looking for part of an aircraft that fell off over the Langton Green and Groombridge area, near Tunbridge Wells, at 11:15am this morning. The object is estimated by an eyewitness to be about 4 meters long by 1 meter wide and came off as the aircraft was at 5,250 feet. The aircraft involved is reportedly a Thomas Cook Boeing 757-3CQ aircraft, registration G-JMAB (pictured), travelling from Gatwick to Hurghada in Egypt. The aircraft with 237 people on board returned to Gatwick Airport and landed safely after the section fell off above Langton Green / Groombridge. The aircraft part that police have been looking for is said to be an overwing emergency slide unit (similar to the one pictured) that is believed to house one of the evacuation chutes that deploy in an emergency after a plane has landed. The emergency slide unit came off as the jets flight path (pictured) took it over an area between Langton Green and Tunbridge Wells. A police helicopter is reportedly being used to locate the aircraft section.
