Just-issued reports from Special Rapporteur Shaheed and the UN Secretary-General reveal that despite pledges from President Rouhani, there has been no significant improvement in key human rights areas in Iran. According to the reports, at least 895 political prisoners and prisoners of conscience are unjustly detained in Iran, and other human rights abuses remain extensive. We urge members of the Human Rights Council to renew the mandate of the Special Rapporteur.
