TUPAC SHAKUR... Just back to Stanford Universitys campus after spending the afternoon with Tupacs mother and his sister. Seems like yesterday that it was the early 1990s when I first met and interviewed Pac for VIBE, and got to know his mother and sister. Little did I know at the time that I would wind up doing several sit-downs and cover stories with Tupac, and even be there in Las Vegas on Friday, September 13, 1996, the day he died at that hospital. In the years since Ive stayed in touch with Tupacs mother and sister, as my life went up and down and sideways, and so did theirs, including the monumental task of representing his enormous legacy. Today was so great because it was so spiritual: we are all in good places, at peace in ways we could not imagine. I have great love for Tupacs mother and sister and always will, for they are both two very strong human beings, two very strong women. I had never been to Marin City before, so Pacs sister drove me to where they lived all those many years back, when the family moved there from Baltimore. I thought a lot about the biography of Tupac Shakur Ive been writing in my head for years, that I have stopped and started in my heart. But after being with his mother and sister today I realize I need to get it done and have it out in the Fall of 2016, 20 years from when Tupac was killed. I have my own life story to finish first, my memoir which will be published Fall 2015, then on to this. It just makes sense more than ever. Honestly, I do not think I can write any other books until I get these two books done. Two things in particular touched my heart: Afeni Shakur, Tupacs mother, told me to keep doing the work I do, that she sees me, that she knows I am doing the right thing. Sekyiwa, Tupacs sister, called me family as I thanked her for sharing with me today. Somewhere Tupac is chillin, that big smile on his face, this I know—
