TURKISH DELIGHTS Turkey enchants you with the mesmerizing memories from its magical past. Who wouldn’t want to live the life of a Turkish Sultan, at least for a day?; pampered and bathed by the concubines, enjoying the choicest of the country wines, having the best of Turkish cuisine, and ending you day with a few flavored puffs from the Hookah, and sipping Kahva (Turkish coffee) with a Lokam (Turkish Delight Sweet), as the exotic Belly dancers gyrate and sway their hips in front of your sleepy eyes!!!!! Folk stories that stirred popular imagination like “The 1001 Nights”, Aladdin, Tales of Nazruddin Hoja , all have their origins in Turkey. The land of flying carpets, Sufi mysticism, Ottoman Sultans, natural wonders, gastronomic delights and bewitching belly dancers, Turkey has everything to offer for the discerning tourist. In Turkey Europe ends and Asia begins, and Turkey is at cross roads with both these civilizations. The urge to visit Turkey , to understand it’s past, culture , and exotic locales came to my mind after reading an article about this country in a popular Travel magazine. Quite contrary to our usual back packing, wandering ways of self explorations, this time we went as part of an organized group, as Turkey was such a big country and we had to cover most of the destinations in a limited time. After a 6 hour long flight to Istanbul, we took a domestic flight to the coastal town of Izmir, they travelled to the adjacent picturesque Kusadasi by road. Kusadasi is a port town, frequented by most of the luxury cruise liners. The pigeon island on Kusadasi’s coast is an alluring sight. As we were in Kusadasi on a Sunday night, the town was full of revelers, with street parties and beach volley ball matches. ( To be continued...............)
