TURKISH PEOPLE’S DEMOCRACY PARTY (HDP) LEADER CONFIRMS HIS COUNTRY’S INVOLVEMENT IN AYN AL-ARAB (KOBANI) EXPLOSION LAUNCHED BY ISIS People’s Democracy Party (HDP) Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş said that ISIS had attacked Kobanê from the Turkish side of the border, but that the Turkish Prime Minister and Chief of the General Staff had denied this. He added that it was obvious that certain officials at the border had been collaborating with ISIS for 77 days, as many ISIS militants had been deployed at a state concern in Turkey. “We have photographs and footage”, said Demirtaş, pointing out that Turkey had yet to make a statement regarding the incident. He said: “This attitude would drag Turkey into a disaster.” On Saturday morning thousands of people gathered in the villages of Mehser and Misaynter at the Kobanê-Suruç border to protest at attacks on Kobanê. Amongst the protesters were HDP Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş, DTK Co-President Selma Irmak and DBP Co-President Kamuran Yüksek. ‘KOBANÊ IS NOT JUST AN OBSCURE TOWN’ Demirtaş spoke to the people there, greeting the resistance that has continued in Kobanê for 77 days and those who have been maintaining the vigil at the border. Demirtaş said that those who assumed Kobanê would fall within three days had not taken into consideration the spirit of resistance in Kobanê. He added: “Kobanê is not just a small town, it is a fortress that has been continuing resistance against fascism for 77 days.” Demirtaş added that ISIS had carried out five suicide attacks on the Mürşitpınar border gate from Turkish territory. ‘WE HAVE FOOTAGE AND PHOTOGRAPHS Demirtaş emphasised that although the Turkish Prime Minister and Chief of the General Staff had denied that the attacks had been carried out from Turkish territory they had footage and photographs proving this was the case, adding: “ISIS terrorists opened fire on Kobanê from wheat silos belonging to the Agricultural Products Department all day.” Demirtaş said they would ask whether the government and General Staff were aware of this. He added that it was apparent that some officials at the border had been collaborating with ISIS for 77 days and praying for them to capture Kobanê. He continued, saying that the government could not continue to deny supporting ISIS when bomb laden vehicles crossed from Turkey through the Mürşitpınar border gate to carry out suicide attacks and blew up an official crossing. He condemned the fact that Turkey had not issued an official statement and that terms of engagement had not been implemented. “The government is trying not to upset ISIS. This will drag Turkey to disaster,” he added. Demirtaş said that the government should have explained what measures it was taking at the Kobanê – Suruç border, adding that it should confess if things were happening without the knowledge of the General Staff and call local officials to account. He said: “The people will not allow ISIS to use Turkish territory to carry out a massacre. No one will remain silent. The spirit of Kobanê is now everywhere.” IRMAK: HEAVY BLOW INFLICTED Speaking after Demirtaş, DTK Co-president Selma Irmak condemned ISIS using Turkish territory to launch attacks on Kobanê, calling on everyone to be aware of this. She drew attention to the possibility of ISIS gangs carrying out more brutal suicide attacks in desperation at the blows being inflicted on them by YPG and YPJ forces. After the speeches, thousands of people marched back towards the village of Mehser, many of them joining the vigil at the border. hurriyetdailynews/syrian-kurds-not-isil-hid-in-turkish-soil-during-kobane-clashes-army-sources.aspx?pageID=238&nID=75077&NewsCatID=352 sana.sy/en/?p=20247 en.firatajans/news/news/demirtas-the-government-trying-not-to-upset-isis.htm dailysabah/politics/2014/12/02/hdp-cochair-not-on-the-side-of-reconciliation-asserts-expert politics.bgnnews/isil-stages-attack-to-kobani-from-turkey-claims-hdp-co-chairman-haberi/1897
