TURN UP YOUR MIRROR AND DRIVE! During one of the LGBT sensitization sessions that Tom and I were facilitating for the Royal St. Lucia Police Force over the past 2 weeks, an officer who moonlights as a tour-bus operator shared the following story as an example on how he deals with LGBT individuals: A few years ago, a gay cruise ship docked in St. Lucia. Many of the tour-bus operators who normally offer island-tours from the port refused to take the LGBT passengers in their vehicles. However, this officer/bus-driver, said he decided to take as many gay tourists as could fit in his bus. Before he set off, he turned the rear-view mirror up so he could not see what was happening in the back seat. He then proceeded to provide these guests with a comprehensive tour of St. Lucia. When he returned to port to drop off his passengers he said he received the biggest tip he has ever had. Meanwhile, his colleague bus-drivers stood around grumbling. After this experience he is now a firm supporter of LGBT tourists coming to St. Lucia and he personally will try to ensure that he is on hand to welcome them! So, his motto is "Turn up your mirror and drive!" What are your thoughts on this form of LGBT tolerance?
