TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY - PART ELEVEN THE SARAHS This is a special blog dedicated to all the awesome wonderful Manchester Sarahs that drifted through my incredible years in that fantastic city. At one stage there were so many! There were even three little Sarahs - all from different groups with crossover names and reasons why they were not “that’ Little Sarah but the other Little Sarah. Goose’s Little Sarah was actually Curly Sarah to me and my little Sarahs weren’t even little Sarahs at all! One was Wee Sarah and the other was Blonde Sarah (although Goose’s Sarah was also blonde but not Blonde) even though Blonde Sarah wasn’t always blonde (that often made for very confused descriptions). Of course some of these Sarahs had other names too which made it both easier and more difficult to identify them. Blonde Sarah was also Uni Sarah and Tank Girl to some. Some who didn’t even know she was a Sarah. Wee Sarah was also Fuse Sarah because I met her at Fuse but there were at least three other Fuse Sarahs. There was Lovely Sarah (not that all of the other Sarahs weren’t lovely - Wee Sarah is one of the loveliest of humans, never mind Sarahs!) who would or could have been Curly Sarah or even Blonde Sarah (by virtue of having curly blonde hair) but wasn’t because other Sarahs had got there first - so was Lovely Sarah because she was lovely. She actually had a friend who was also called Sarah and had curly-ish hair and was occasionally known as Curly Sarah but then also Not That Curly Sarah to distinguish her from actual Curly Sarah. I knew her as Tall Sarah - just because she wasn’t small or wee (or Small or Wee). Occasionally there would be a Sarah whose surname you already knew so they were just that name - Sarah Riley was always just Sarah Riley (and I don’t mean JUST as if to suggest that is not enough!) so she didn’t need a nick-name. Although she did have curly hair (sometimes) so I’m sure I’ve heard her called Curly Sarah and then maybe to clarify that she’s not that Curly Sarah - and she’s tall so might be confused with Tall Sarah but as far as I know I’m the only one who called Tall Sarah Tall Sarah and I always knew Sarah Riley’s name so she was just…. phew! Too many Sarahs! But no, that is the point. Even though there was a plethora of Sarahs there was never too many. Not at all. Some of the Sarahs stood out for me. Three of them I’m lucky enough to be able describe as close friends even today. Honestly, when things are difficult, count yourself very lucky indeed if you have even one Sarah in your life. When my Mum died Sarah Riley sent me one of the nicest messages that spoke directly to me and made me feel instantly better. Thanks for that :) When I was in a bit of a mess and needed somewhere to feel safe and appreciated and loved (even now) Wee Sarah (Stonier) provided it without question and did so even a few months ago. Much appreciated Wee One :) And after the most regrettable break-up I’ve ever had, Little Blonde Tank Girl Sarah (Newton) opened up her heart and her home to help me through like no other. I’ll never forget that :) So, Sarahs - this is for you (not a Manchester band but a Dublin band) and a song called... https://youtube/watch?v=FBkqgcQxjaE
