TWO MEN CITED FOLLOWING SALMON SNAGGING COMPLAINT NEAR CEDAR CREEK FISH HATCHERY IN TILLAMOOK COUNTY Posted: September 8th, 2013 10:12 AM Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers cited two men Friday after receiving reports they were snagging Chinook salmon in Three Rivers near Hebo in Tillamook County. The area where the complaints were reported is near the Cedar Creek Fish Hatchery (bit.ly/1dT46T8) where fish are pooled up for hatchery production. According to Sergeant Todd Hoodenpyl, on September 6, 2013, OSP received two angling complaints of snagging Chinook salmon near the hatchery. A landowner filmed the two suspects as they snagged salmon using a hand line and treble hook, but before an OSP Fish & Wildlife (F&W) trooper could make contact, the two suspects left the scene. Information regarding the suspects and their vehicle was provided to OSP troopers and area law enforcement agencies. An OSP Patrol Services Division trooper out of McMinnville spotted the suspect vehicle on Highway 18 near milepost 28 and stopped it. The OSP F&W trooper from Tillamook who was responding to the original complaint went to the traffic stop scene to continue the investigation. Subsequent investigation and search led to the discovery of 8 Chinook salmon in a cooler covered by clothing. The two suspects were identified as FERNANDO PATRICIO-MEDINA, age 30, and CHRISTIAN PATRICIO-AVILA, age 30, both from Tualatin. They were cited and released to appear on the following charges: * Trespassing on a Fish Weir * Angling Closed Stream (2 counts) * Angling Prohibited Method to wit: Snagging (9 counts) * Unlawful Taking of Chinook Salmon to wit: Closed Stream (9 counts) * Aiding in a Wildlife Crime "We appreciate the help of local residents to help identify and find these two suspects," said Hoodenpyl. "This is a great case as we had received a complaint of these subjects being on Three Rivers snagging fish earlier in the week." No photographs for release. OSP will not release the video provided by the landowner because of the pending case adjudication.
