TWO MORE DAYS ‘TIL ELECTION DAY - PROMISE #7 (Gun Safety) For each of the last 8 days of this campaign, I am stating my position on an important issue for Ohioans and the nation. Voters deserve to know - and to hold me accountable. No vagueness; no BS. Just my promise. PROMISE #6 - I will vote for laws that address rampant gun violence in our nation, including universal criminal background checks before any gun purchase. I will advocate for reasonable limitations on our right to bear arms, as articulated by the U.S. Supreme Court in a decision written by Justice Antonin Scalia. I strongly rebuke the NRA (representing the narrow economic interests of gun manufacturers) and its utilization of fear-mongering to undermine serious debate on gun laws. The issue is not gun confiscation; the issue is public safety. Dont ask Congressman Joyce to address this; he defers to the NRA and refuses to address the issue. Gun violence cannot be eradicated, but it can be reduced - with engaged legislators seeking reasonable and measured solutions. Too many members of Congress, like David P. Joyce, are obstructionists, repeating NRA sound bites and simplistic and erroneous constitutional interpretations, while ignoring the proliferation of gun violence. Hold your candidates accountable now - and, after they are elected.
