TWO NEW POSTINGS BY THE MEDIA LITERACY PROJECT FOR LATE SUMMER: Communications and Marketing Assistant Reports to: Communications and Marketing Director Hours: 12-20 hours a week Rate: $12/hour Posting #: 0821532 Position type: UNM work study Posting Date: 7/29/13 For Best Consideration: 8/30/13 Closing Date: 10/1/13 This is an off campus work study position located at Media Literacy Project (6400 Wyoming Blvd NE). A work study award is required for this position. Position Summary: This position’s primary function is to support Media Literacy Project’s communications and marketing work and reports directly to the communication and marketing director. Essential Functions: • Maintain and update press database after MLP media appearances • Provide support to social media and website activity • Develop and maintain media archives for print, television, and radio content • Assist Communications and Marketing Director with projects as needed • Pitch stories to journalists • Develop content for communications and marketing as assigned Minimum Qualifications: • Experience or coursework in communications, journalism, and/or marketing • Interest in social justice and/or non-profits • Comfortable working with MLP’s clients and constituents, including youth, people of color, immigrant, and LGBTQ communities • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Strong written and oral communication skills • Ability to work independently • Applicants must have a vehicle and valid driver’s license • Work-study award Preferred Qualifications: • Knowledge of non-profits • Understanding of social justice frameworks • Experience writing for public relations or marketing • Interest in deconstructing media • Some knowledge of AP style • Some experience in video editing, graphic design, social media and/or website content development (Drupal) a plus • Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus, but not required To Apply: Go to https://unmjobs.unm.edu. This position is unpaid. The intern will report directly to the Communications & Marketing Director. The intern’s duties may include writing public communications such as press releases, fundraising communications, blogs and social media posts, as well as media relations, research, product marketing, administrative duties, and other projects as needed. The student should have exceptional writing skills, strong grades and great interpersonal and organizational skills. Also, it is important to have an interest in media issues, deconstructing media and/or social justice. This is open to higher education students in a variety of majors, as long the student is a strong writer. Only students with a 3.0 GPA or above need apply (either in major or cumulative). Preferred qualifications (which are not required) include: Bilingual English/Spanish, knowledge of AP style, website editing (Drupal), graphic design.
