TWO NIGHTS OF SHEER MAGIC! As part of the 75th Anniversary celebrations, the Argentine British Community Council (ABCC) held their yearly fund-raising event in aid of the British Community Welfare Fund (BCWF) at the British Ambassador’s residence, on the nights of the 18th and 19th of September, through the kindness of HM Ambassador Dr. John Freeman and Mrs. Corinna Freeman. This year’s event was a performance of the opera “Tosca” - with Music by Giacomo Puccini, and Libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa – performed by professional opera singers accompanied by accomplished musicians; the staging was under the general direction of Peter Macfarlane who, together with production manager Georgina Ros Artayeta (of Macfarlane and Ros Artayeta Showmakers), produced a most excellent staging of this well-known work. The beauty of the surroundings, the vocal excellence of the costumed singers and the exacting musical accompaniment, provided audiences with most memorable experiences which received standing ovations on both nights. Guests were treated to a champagne reception, and dinner was served in stages as the opera progressed. The event was made possible due to the generous sponsorship of various companies together with contributions made by friends of the ABCC, for which the Council is most grateful. The premises were decorated with most attractive floral arrangements thanks to the good offices of members of the Garden Club Argentino to who go well-deserved thanks. Gratitude is also extended to Mrs. Terry Chapman s, ABCC Office Manager Sandra Handley, and to several willing members of the Community for their hard work and assistance in the running of the event. Thanks also to the superb catering which was supplied by Gabriela Bertagni and the drinks which were supplied by Diageo. The funds derived from this event will be used by the ABCC in assisting several community welfare deserving causes and also the Fundación Hospital de Pediatría Profesor Doctor Juan P.
