TWO WORDS I HATE: BULKING AND CUTTING!! Attention boys and girls: no more inboxing me with questions about ‘bulking and cutting’ please. These two words are nonsensical and yield images of indulgence and extreme restriction. Extreme weight fluctuation is very bad for your body. Nobody should ever encourage a beginner to bulk! Beginners should learn to lift weights and apply sound nutrition that can control their bodyfat levels. If a beginner wants to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time he or she can do so with good nutrition, weight training and HIIT cardio. It is also much healthier to keep your body fat low all year-round than to stuff your face with cakes and high in hydrogenated fats foods for a few months and then have to crash diet for 12 weeks to get ripped, how stupid is that?? If you insist on bulking all you gonna get is extra FAT on a nutritionally lacking diet that will do very little to your lean growth. That’s because a bulking phase that helps with muscle gain means that you need to be at a caloric surplus. However any increase in calories will result in an increase in body fat and a high fat level does you no good to muscle building. Every period you are on a caloric surplus you need to match it with an equivalent period of caloric deficit. Building muscle is a slow process without exogenous help (understand?). Weight gain is NOT the same as muscle gain as much as weight loss is not the same as fat loss! The only approximate estimate at your disposal to know how much muscle you have added is to measure your bodyfat and total weight progressively, if there is a measurable loss in BF and a gain in total BW then you know you are adding lean tissue. Body building is, in itself a very simple process: working with weights AT THE APPROPRIATE VOLUME AND INTENSITY and sound nutrition. Master the basics of both and you are on your way, anything more complicated than that leave it to the pro’s with decades of training experience on them whereas you, my dear boys and girls, BE PATIENT AND KEEP IT SIMPLE!! ttlctrl.co.uk
