TXDOT: FREE CHILD SAFETY SEAT EVENT SET IN CORPUS CHRISTI Child safety seat checks offered as part of National Child Passenger Safety Week. WHEN: Saturday, September 14, 2013 10:30 am – 1:30 pm WHERE: Texas Department of Transportation 1701 South Padre Island Drive Corpus Christi, Texas 78416 WHAT: Representatives from TxDOT and Texas Department of State Health Services will demonstrate common mistakes people make when installing safety seats and how to properly buckle up children. CORPUS CHRISTI — The good news is a new Texas study has found nearly nine out of 10 babies and toddlers are riding in car safety seats. But the bad news is more than a quarter of those safety seats are used incorrectly. Nationally, the numbers are even higher with three out of four child safety seats used incorrectly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. To help ensure our youngest travelers are properly buckled up, TxDOT and the Texas Department of State Health Services will hold a free child safety seat check on Saturday. If you can’t make this event, TxDOT has certified child passenger safety technicians on staff in all 25 TxDOT districts. Just call your local district for an appointment to make sure your child is properly secured. You can also avoid one of the most common mistakes – using the wrong size safety seat – by going to texasclickitorticket/ . Choose your child’s age and it will show you the type of seat needed.
