#TXWX #Austin #Georgetown #Round_Rock #San_Marcos areas; information via NWS Austin/San Antonio Another cold, breezy and wet night is in store across south central Texas. Periods of mainly light precipitation are expected overnight as an upper level storm system slowly approaches from the west. As temperatures fall to at or below freezing across the southern Edwards Plateau and Hill Country, a round of wintry precipitation can be expected. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the Hill Country and southern Edwards Plateau for a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet resulting in ice accumulations of one tenth of an inch or less. For the remainder of south central Texas, light rain is expected tonight with overnight low temperatures in the mid 30s to lower 40s. North winds of 10 to 20 MPH will make temperatures seem even colder, with wind chill readings in the low 20s Hill Country to the low 30s elsewhere. A cold Canadian air mass will remain over South Central Texas today through Tuesday while a slow moving upper level low pressure system moves across the southwestern United States. Tonight into Monday, the potential for ice accumulation from freezing rain and sleet increases over the Hill Country and southern Edwards Plateau. These wintry conditions are expected to spread east into the Interstate 35 corridor north of San Antonio Sunday night into Monday. This includes the Austin metro area. The upper low is expected to finally pass southeast across Texas Tuesday, with a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow all possible, mainly north of highway 90. Total accumulations of ice is expected to be around 1/4 inch or less, and most of the frozen precipitation should gradually melt from the warmer ground temperatures below.
