Tackling public safety and urban blight at the same time, the city plans to incorporate public art into a routine sidewalk project next year. The three-block stretch of Chelan Avenue south of the Wenatchee Community Center — currently has problems with speeding drivers and homes there are often out of compliance with city codes for property upkeep, said Steve King, community and economic development director. The city plans to use grant funding that is earmarked for reducing and improving urban blight and public safety in disadvantaged neighborhoods to put in new sidewalks along the street.
