Tadgh O’Flynn Tennis Classic From Tim Conway & The Nenagh - TopicsExpress

Tadgh O’Flynn Tennis Classic From Tim Conway & The Nenagh Guardian There was a fine turnout for the finals of the Tadhg O’Flynn Tennis at Nenagh LTC. Play had been going in the graded team competition on each evening for the previous 13 days. The competition was favoured with excellent Autumn weather, although the organising committee may have been tempted to ring Evelyn Cusack on the Friday evening when wind and rain decidedly dampened the proceedings, but despite this most semi-finals took place. There was a lot of good tennis played throughout the competition and it was generally agreed that the standard of tennis on display in the finals was of high variety. The competition for teams of 4, was divided into 4 sections, graded accordingly, with teams allocated names with reference to screen stars, motor manufacturers, confectionary bars and clothing companies. At the presentation, Anne Marie Darcy, President, and Frank O’Keeffe, Club Captain, both thanked Tadhg O’Flynn for his wonderful support of the competition, a competition which is extremely popular always enjoyable to participate in. Among the busiest players on Finals Night was Triona Dunne who featured on 2 winning teams, that of her allocated team ‘Merc’ in Section II and then with ‘Hanks’ in Section I with whom she was subbing up. Triona is obviously a fit lady as there certainly was no rushing home to rest after the presentation The winners of Section I were James Morris, Nick Flannery, Emma Mulqueen, Triona Dunne and Noelle O’Conner, collectively named ‘Hanks’, although ‘Gibson’ or ‘Crowe’ might have been more applicable . Runner-up was the ‘Pitt’ team, presumably after Brad, not Ingrid, composed of James White, Eoin Seymour, Anne Marie Darcy and Abbeyleix visitor Leisa Fitzgerald. Section II was won by the smooth running ‘Merc’ team of Tommy Riggs Miller, Frank O’Brien, Maeve O’Sullivan and Triona Dunne. Runners-up here was the Ford ‘Focus’ team of Gary White, David Kyne, Ber Daly and Lorraine Talbot. Section III winners were Pat O’Meara, Brian McGrath, Deirdre O’Brochain and Sharon Young, collectively called ‘Rose’, we assume of the assorted Cadbury variety. They overcame the challenge of Daire McGrath, Kieran Burke, Brid Walsh and Frances Cleary who were featuring under the exotic ‘Galaxy’ title. Finally to Section IV in which Claire Ley, Maggie Mulqueen, Geraldine Hilmi and Marie Murphy operating under the ‘G Star’ fashion label won out, being successful against a game ‘Pepe’ team of Marie Coffey, Eimear O’Keeffe, Julianna Slattery and Pauline Ryan. Claire should be in demand in the fashion advertising industry as she won the inter-firms earlier in the year with a team under the ‘Diesel’ banner.
