Tai Chi for Arthritis is a highly refine neuromotor functional - TopicsExpress

Tai Chi for Arthritis is a highly refine neuromotor functional exercise. Many of the benefits of Tai Chi come from the mental involvement and the breathing technique. Learning Tai Chi is like learning to meditate- it is an internal discipline that has results beyond what appears on the surface. There are four main components to Tai Chi practice, all of which happen at once. First and foremost is the posture- it is the five-point postural system designed to strengthen the spine and keep strain off of the joints. The breath is deep abdominal breathing that helps relax and focus the mind, and is coordinated with the movements. The mental involvement comes from trying to coordinate the movements and sequence, and in making sure that you are following the principles. This doesnt sound like much, but is essentially present-moment meditation that really does quiet the mind during practice. Finally, the movements of Tai Chi, though slow and easy, actually serve to spread out the effort over the entire muscular system to build strength in the legs and spinal stabilizers. Curious? Here, try it out and enjoy a lifetime of practicing a beautiful art form with limitless depth (and quite a lot of fun, actually!) youtube/watch?v=tAOuEpa01j4
