Taipei - the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights - TopicsExpress

Taipei - the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights has gathered several organizations in the Marriage Equality Revolutionary Alliance and invited anyone who supports marriage equality to form a “rainbow siege” around the Legislative Yuan on Oct. 5. A rainbow bus already started its routes through the city promoting for marriage equality. On Oct. 5, the alliance will launch its “rainbow siege” activity. The activities on that day will use a “homophobic lock” as members of the public pledge to lock in on homophobic legislators. After the press conference, the alliance and several other organizations, such as the Loving Parents of LGBT, Pridewatch Taiwan and Democracy Tautin walked around the Legislative Yuan once, holding red signs with the text “Homophobia is unconstitutional,” and announced the planned rainbow siege activity. Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights president Victoria Hsu said the alliance had spent three years planning and drawing up a marriage equality amendment to the Civil Code. The alliance made a great effort to submit the amendment to the legislature, but once it entered the legislature’s Judiciary and Organic Laws and Statutes Committee nothing happened. Hsu said she looked forward to inviting supporters of marriage equality to surround the Legislative Yuan before the legislature’s next session.
