Taiwan sends two C-130 aircraft to deliver humanitarian aid for typhoon victims (2013/11/12) Taiwan is donating money and humanitarian aid to the Philippines in the wake of Super Typhoon Haiyan. This afternoon, two C-130 cargo planes departed for Cebu carrying relief supplies donated by local NGOs. Super Typhoon Haiyan devastated parts of the Philippines, leading to an estimated 10,000 dead and upwards of 9 million people affected. Immediately following the storm, the Taiwan government donated US$200,000 in aid and later deployed two C-130 aircraft to transport vital relief supplies. Lu Fei-fan Political Warfare Officer, Air Force We completed personnel assignments and prepared goods to deliver. We are wholeheartedly committed to this task. NGOs, including Dharma Drum, Fo Guang Shan, Tzu Chi and the Red Cross, have donated supplies, such as dry food, blankets and tents, with a total weight of around 100 tons. The Air Force says the C-130 aircraft is suited to making such a large delivery. Lu Fei-fan Political Warfare Officer, Air Force We are confident that we can accomplish this task. For example, this unit carried out humanitarian relief missions in the South Asia tsunami of 2004 and the Haiti earthquake of 2010. It has crossed many borders and gone to every corner of the world to spread aid and compassion.
