Take Action Dear Kapil, Compassionate residents of Wellington, New Zealand, report that city officials have hired a contractor to trap pigeons in a neighborhood near Victoria University and kill them—allegedly by snapping their necks—all in a misguided attempt at controlling their populations. Killing or otherwise removing unwanted birds will only backfire because the resultant spike in the food supply accelerates breeding among survivors and newcomers, resulting in increased populations. And trapped birds can quickly succumb to stress, dehydration, or exposure, while dependent offspring are left to starve. PETA apprised officials of the cruelty and futility of this measure, but to no apparent avail, so now its your turn to speak up! Please urge the city of Wellington to remove the traps and employ humane and effective pigeon control methods instead. Then please forward this e-mail widely! Thank you for speaking up for wildlife!
