Take Dakuku, Reject Wike by Andy Briggs I was confronted by the stark differences between Dakuku and Nyesom Wike yesterday. At Dakuku’s house in the morning, his supporters were cheerfully crowding through his gates, lining up DAP branded buses and readying to advance to Okrika. Wike had already been to Okrika, two days earlier and Dakuku’s supporters were looking forward to drawing a larger crowd but I worried that the rally was coming too close to Wike’s rally. I worried that the political brawler of Rumuepirikom would be infuriated at being neutralized in Okrika only after two days of having bled million from his declining war chest to pay for a jamboree in Okrika. It was then that the allegation reached my ears that as early as three a.m in the morning Wike’s supporters, allegedly, had bombed the National Field at Okrika where the APC rally was scheduled to take off. Worse still, the police which was supposed to maintain law and order abandoned the area, leaving these rabid supporters of NEW to take the law into their hands in an orgy of destruction and arson targeted at DAP supporters. It has been alleged that this show of shame in which one victim is suspected to have died was allegedly led by Evans Bipi, a former police man, the pretender speaker and a supporter of NEW. While I was still trying to understand why Wike’s stalwarts had decided to envelop Okrika in violence, the news reached me that again Wike had taken the law into his hands and led a detatchment of soldiers to invade a choice property of the Rivers State Government the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium against the clear instruction of the Rivers State Government in a desperate need for a venue where he may attemp to pull the kind of crowd that Amaechi has pulled twice. Elekahia Stadium can not offer that opportunity. A governorship candidate who shows such rabid contempt for the law of his state just because he needs to impress his master is not fit to rule. Invading Rivers Government property against the clear instruction of the owner is what the police call breaking and entering, pure criminality, a clear revelation of lawlessness. Wike has become so blinded by his battle instincts that he no longer knows that this behaviour is repulsive to Rivers people, indigene and non-indigene! From allegations of hate speeches against non-indigenes, he has move to illegal occupation of Government property. He’s acting like a war-lord. By invading the stadium and rejecting the authority of the duly elected governor, he has formed a parallel government in Igwurita. Is he still trying to change the government without election? It remains to be seen whether Jonathan will publicly support this act of terrorism by coming to campaign in a stadium forcefully and illegally acquired by his Rivers party flagbearer. If Jonathan supports Wike’s rape of Rivers State Government authority, forcefully breaking into the stadium that Rivers people built with dwindling resources and holding the facility hostage, then Mr. President will deserve to be sacked by any one who can rescue Rivers people. I believe however that Mr. President will reject this act of terrorism in a humble, determined and peace loving manner. In comparison to Wike’s troubling and violent moves yesterday, Dakuku’s moves were full of peace, wisdom and the fear of God. That is what Rivers State needs. He went to a meeting with men of God, canceled the rally at Okrika to avoid further bloodshed and had a meeting with the Rivers State Commissioner of Police. The choice is clear. A war monger or a man of peace. Peace is what Rivers State needs. Take Dakuku Petersie and reject Nyesom Wike.
