Take a knee, if you must, but listen to their tiny voices. A Letter from The (Reluctant) President of Tall Guyz: Dearest Tall Guyz, What began as an earnest gesture to support an aggrieved friend has turned into a movement that grows in numbers day by day. With your help, the Tall Guyz have established themselves as a network which is dedicated to identifying, encouraging, and supporting those whose journey, and perspective are uniquely shaped by being AT LEAST 62 tall. Weve exchanged dating stories, stories of discrimination, pictures of our kind, and, most of all, good cheer. Weve also reached out, in a way that only our lengthy arms can, to embrace, and support, the struggles of those whose physical stature may differ from our own, but whose struggle for acceptance and respect we know all too well. Small Guyz, Tall Galz, Small Galz, and our original spinoff, Tall Guyz Jr. Weve also received support from I Stand with Tall Guyz, and Standing in the Shadows of Tall Guyz. These are gestures of support for which I am truly grateful. Its heartwarming to have the support of so many in the undertall community. As you can see, there are many reasons to be thankful and hopeful. Yet, there are areas in which our struggle for acceptance may be weakened by well-intended, but damaging, acts of self sabotage. These acts only serve to perpetuate the stereotype that Tall Guyz are angry, dangerous, and monstrous giants, seeking to lay waste to person and property. We are good, gentle men, gentlemen. We neednt resort to attacks. That said, I would be derelict in my duties if I did not address the dangers posed by the allegedly inclusive group, Tall Enuff. Though their displays of openness and inclusivity attempt to make a mockery of the challenges faced by those AT LEAST 62 tall, and though the suggest that we are a bigoted group, we must endeavor to demonstrate that we are a minority hidden in plain sight. A benevolent minority whose health, wealth, and general well-being are directly impacted by a society which implicitly fosters and rewards undertall privilege. To that end, I would like to propose the Tall Guyz/Small Buddyz initiative. Through TGSB, it is my hope that the undertall might learn to see us as PEOPLE. People who ride in cars and planes. People who go to the movies, concerts, and the theatre. People who shop for pants. But this work is not solely the enterprise of the undertall. No, Tall Guyz must recognize that the undertall have struggles of their own; smaller struggles, but struggles nonetheless. Some may have friends who are Tall Guyz too, but think theyre alone. Take a knee, if you must, but listen to their tiny voices. The undertall are people too. In conclusion, I ask that you enter the world of the undertall as an ambassador for Tall Guyz everywhere. Though people look up to you, have people look up to you because you are worthy of being looked up to, not because your imposing physical presence forces them to do so. Good luck, and stay tall. John
