Take a look at Kline Biology Tower—standing atop Science Hill as Yale Universitys tallest building, its hard to miss. Kline Biology Tower or KBT is home to Yales Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. The buildings facilities include a café, a library, classrooms, offices, and research labs. During the school year and throughout the summer, students take classes and do research in KBTs state of the art facilities. The Handelsman Lab, led by pioneering researcher, award-winning teacher, and outspoken advocate Jo Handelsman, is one of the labs that call Kline Biology Tower home. Dr. Handelsman—a recent nominee for Associate Director for Science at The White Houses Office of Science and Technology Policy—has done groundbreaking microbiology research focusing on the genetic diversity of microorganisms and their role in infectious diseases. Beyond her microbiology research, however, Dr. Handelsman is a mentor and teacher for many undergraduates and has done extensive research and advocacy on the subject of opportunities for minorities and women in STEM. Learn more about her lab here: bit.ly/1mlDMpB. Dr. Handelsmans lab is just one of many that can be found throughout Kline Biology Towers 16 stories. KBT is a stop on our daily science tours, Monday through Friday at 4:00 PM this summer.
