Take charge of your campaigns, APC tells Jonathan: THE All Progressives Congress(APC), Presidential Campaign Organisation on Monday, advised President Jonathan and the leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) to take charge of their campaign for re-election before their surrogates plunge the nation into confusion and anarchy. Reacting to a front page wrap-around cover advertisement on the Monday, January 19, 2015 edition of some newspapers in which Nigerians were asked to choose between life and death, grouping General Muhammadu Buhari among former Nigerian leaders who were either killed or died of natural causes while in office, the APC campaign declared that: “this is the height of desperate tactics by the PDP, which is capable of degenerating into unnecessary bloodshed and destruction.” “They are choosing death for us. This is not politics. We are therefore asking our supporters to stay calm and be law-abiding,” it stated. The statement signed by Mallam Garba Shehu, director of media and publicity of the campaign a copy of which was made available to newsmen in Abuja, said: “even as a candidate, Dr Goodluck Jonathan has a duty to lead the country with responsibility up until May 29, when a new President will be inaugurated.” Taken in its ordinary meaning, the APC alleged that the ongoing campaign on Buhari’s health, using forged medical reports, and now suggestions of death, were reeking of plots to eliminate him (Buhari) before or after he wins. The statement warned that: “the whole world is watching and that if anything happens to General Muhammadu Buhari before, during or after the elections, under the pretext of X, Y, or Z, we shall be left with no option than to conclude that the PDP and their surrogates are to be held accountable.” In his reaction, the Ekiti State governor, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose has said that he has no apology for the advertorial published in some national newspapers of last Monday, warning Nigerians of the consequence of electing Buhari as this nation’s president. In a press statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary. Mr Idowu Adelusi in Ado Ekiti on Monday, Fayose said that Buhari was an analog man, an old model. Fayose spoke further, “You will recall that APC confirmed that Buhari will travel out. I have been vindicated in my sincere and nationalistic assessment of Buhari. “The APC should declare the state of health of Buhari. The same way Obasanjo said that Yar’adua was healthy but we know what later happened to him. “Buhari a spent force, should display his medical and educational certificate if he is sure of himself and to dispute this fact. “The APC has asserted in a national newspaper that Buhari is to be flown out for medical check up. “Above all, Buhari is seeking a public office and Nigerians need to know all these,” it stated.
