Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, - TopicsExpress

Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him. (Luke 17:3-4) We have all heard the phrase Bury the hatchet but one problem with so many Christians is that they try to bury it into other Christians. One great obstacle of stumbling is unforgiveness. Jesus said if a brother or sister repents, forgive them... that is, bury the hatchet and its handle. If you leave any trace of offense (the handle) in your life, the enemy will grab a hold of it and use it to his advantage! How many times, you might ask, must you forgive? As often as the brother or sister repents, we are to forgive or as Jesus instructed Peter, 7 times 70! Dont grab a hold of buried hatchet handles for they will become stumbling blocks to forgiveness. There are several times in scripture where the Bible tells us that we are to take heed. The definition for heed is: To mind, to regard with care, to take notice, to attend to, to observe. In the text above, God is reminding us that when a brother or sister trespasses or sins against us, we are to take heed to ourselves. It is easy for us to look at another person and pick out their faults, however, it isnt always so easy for us to pick on our own faults. For one reason or another, we can easily justify our own behavior, yet be quick to judge another. We all need to remember not be the one that picks up the hatchet and bring to remembrance past wrongs of someone else. Taking heed to ourselves will help us remember that we are all made of the same filthy dirt and it is only through the Grace & Mercy of God that we are able to let the past stay in the past. Courage is not simply one of the Virtues... Its the form of every Virtue thats been put to the test! Finish Strong ~ mike mikebellministries
