Take it or leave it, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) remains a major factor in Nigerias politics. Besides all the bad press of his annulment of the June 12, 1993 Presidential elections and the over-hyped concern that he institutionalized corruption, it remains to be seen which of our past leaders actually came to the Presidency PREPARED to lead. He was deliberate, intentional and focused. He didnt get everything right but he set us on a course economically that no other administration has deviated from 21 years after he stepped aside. He literally opened up Nigeria to market economy and liberalized our economy. He made us realize we could do a lot of things ourselves and opened our eyes to a whole lot of our potentials as a people and a nation. His amount of knowledge of Nigeria and its people plus the influence he exerted has made it such that Minna has continued to be some kind of last resort for politicians consultations whether they be the ruling party of the opposition. There is something this guy knows that most of our politicians and leaders dont know yet. This is wishing this enigma of a statesman speedy recovery and sound health. Shalom Nigeria.
