Taken these from the SOP module of my CRM and AMRM courses. Last December I had the great honor to be invited to attend the American Airlines Training Academy in Dallas Fort Worth and sit in on several human factors classes. I was curious to see to see if I was in fact teaching my CRM and AMRM courses the same way they do it in the airlines. I am happy to report that I am. In the classes were basically told that if you dont violate an SOP you probably wont get hurt. Makes sense. SOPs are normally made by consensus with the benefit of time (no pressure.) Here are some of the objectives and benefits of SOPs. 1. Standards agreed prior to the flight to achieve maximum crew performance. 2. Set limits or acceptable tolerances 3. Improve communication 4. Create logical order, enhances workload management. 5. Increase situational awareness. 6. Specify prioritization of duties (roles & responsibilities) 7. Improve cross-checking and monitoring of your fellow team members. 8. Allow inter-changeable crew composition. 9. Facilitate conflict resolution.
