Taking a Shower: A Time of Joy We usually take a shower at least - TopicsExpress

Taking a Shower: A Time of Joy We usually take a shower at least twice a day, for about 15 minutes at a time. So we have half an hour a day on average in the bathroom. We also get in and out of the bathroom many times a day whenever nature calls. Since the bathroom is a place where we can let go of our sufferings, physically, we should use it to let go of our mentally sufferings as well. I call it a “Double Impact” action. Shower time is a private moment. Nobody can bother you (except for those who cannot do it alone). This private moment should be our happy moment and a time for mindfulness. Let me give you some pieces of advice. It’s easy. The more you do it, the more effective it will be. Begin with declaring your bathroom as a truly private area. Any thoughts are not allowed. Once you step into your bathroom, be sure to make it a “thought-free” area. Because a thought is a cause of suffering. So we don’t carry our thought to bother our mind. After that, stay tuned with your senses, both physically and mentally, by touching, observing through your six senses. Just allow yourself to observe the sensations present around your feet. When the water slowly rinse on your head, observe the heat or coolness that you feel. Slowly apply soap on your body, happily, smell the scents of shampoo, soap and lotion. Try to switch to your non-dominant hand in order to pull yourself out of your monotonous routine. Habitude is one of lustful desires. To learn to do what you usually do with new approach and new perspective is a challenge. It helps stimulate the mind and consciousness to fully operate. When applying moisturizing lotion on your skin, be sure to smile to yourself first. Rub your face slowly with facial cream and touch the softness of your face with your fingers. Do it slowly, happily. Don’t rush. When thought emerges, tenderly leave it and get back to your senses, feeling happy and alone with yourself. Can you manage it? Just for 15 minutes without any thought, in the morning and the afternoon. Be free, comfortable and cozy. And the rest of the day will be a happy day. Try it. Let go of your sufferings both physical and mental. Give your heart freedom. And you will discover what it feels like when you enjoy peace and happiness with every breath you take. Danai Chanchaochai
