Taking a well deserved breather following the Christmas and New Year festivities, golfers were once again out in force at Barnhill on Sunday last and, considering a few spells of overnight rain during the week, members were in abundance of agreement that the course was in the best condition ever for the time of year. Reading the greens as if they were his own back garden, Cat 4 handicapper Joe Diver [24], despite a blank, double bogey start, holed for birdie at 8th to take the turn with a pleasing 20pts and, making sure that he was in the mix with an inward nine of 21pts for an overall 41pts, still required a countback on the B.O.T. to take top spot from Michael O Mallaigh [13]. Michaels start of birdie at first was quickly erased with three bogeys but, swinging away the holiday cobwebs, recorded pars from 7-13th, [an accumulation of 20pts] returning 22pts on outward nine but losing out on the countback, no doubt that double bogey at 14th to blame. Normal play was resumed in the gross section with 2015 Captain Gerard Duffy returning 31 gross points. CPR -DEFIBULATOR A refresher course will be held in Letterkenny clubhouse on Sunday 11th January, from 4pm – 7pm, for those qualified in CPR .**There will also be instruction for those who have not previously attended training for the use of the defibulator but who wish to do so. The more people that have knowledge of CPR the better—you may help save a life someday!** Dont forget to recycle your old mobile phones to help us get a second defibrillator to be housed out on the course in case of emergency. There is a recycle box in the front hall of the clubhouse where mobiles can be left. 2015 ULSTER CUP The draw for the 2015 GUI Ulster Cup has been made and Letterkenny Golf Club will have the priviledge of hosting Cairndhu Golf Club in the first round. Matches to be played before April 20th. HAVE YOU SIGNED UP? Letterkenny Golf Clubs newly launched Online Lottos draw took place on Wednesday 24th and, although there was no Jackpot winner, two lotto members who smiled happily were Eileen Williamson & Conor Mc Menamin, winners of the lucky dip prizes of €50 each.
