Taking advantage of the post-exercise opportunity for enhanced - TopicsExpress

Taking advantage of the post-exercise opportunity for enhanced learning, CrossFit Kids has been programming a study hall or brain teasers session for our teen classes since 2009. We are now implementing Cognitive WODs to accommodate and expand upon the new Common Core Standards. We are pleased to present the third of these below. Common Core: Language Arts & Literacy Cognitive: Development of Words Warm Up: 15m Lunges, 15m Butt Kickers Focus: Push Press: Shoulder Position WOD: 10 Sprints (focus on Pose Running) Game: CrossFit Hangman: Trainer chooses a word and records a series of dashes on the whiteboard to represent the letters of the word. If the word is “Burpees” there will be seven dashes. Kids must perform 5 box jumps each time in order to take a guess at a letter that might be in the word. If the guess is correct, for example, a P, the trainer fills in the corresponding blanks: _ _ _ P _ _ _. If a player makes a wrong guess then the trainer begins to draw the hangman/wod victim in the following order each time a child makes an incorrect guess: barbells, head, body, right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg. If the left leg is added to complete the drawing before the word has been discovered, then the trainer wins. If time allows, repeat game with a different word.
