Talent Show at MREI: A Melting pot of Creativity and Talent… Manav Rachna’s Faculty and non-teaching members of all Faculties, departments and institutions had got together for a very special reason. They were there to cheer and participate at a Talent Show organised exclusively for them. The Talent Show at the B-Block of the MRIU campus on January 9, 2015 gave Manav Rachna’s Faculty and non-teaching members the perfect platform to showcase their talent and let their hair down. Shedding their professional air and inhibitions, the participants were all smiles, brimming with spontaneity and enthusiasm. The event held under the aegis of Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), threw the spotlight on various forms of creativity: there was dance, singing, poetry recitation, sketching, standup act, ramp walk and Ad Mad to choose from. The performers, for their part did not disappoint, as they took to the stage and displayed their skills and talents. If Preeti Taneja of MRIS, Charmwood, impressed the audience with her lilting voice, singing ‘Aagey bhi jaaney na tu..’, Aman Jindal also from the same school and an Alumni of FET, MRIU, gyrated to a catchy Bollywood number. An initially hesitant but sporting Satrupa of HR beautifully sang ‘Dil hai chhotasa…’ while Suman ‘Maam’, MRIU’s basketball coach, dressed in traditional Rasjasthani ghaghra-choli, swayed to a melodious Rajasthani folk tune. Then there was Niti, Assistant Professor of MRCE, who belted out ‘Ajeeb dastan hai yeh…’’ while hostel warden Parminder Kaur and her daughter Priti broke into a rhythmic Punjabi jig. Talking of dance, Neelam had come all the way from MRIS Noida and set feet tapping with her ‘Damadam maskalandar..’ a sufi song where she was later joined in by the clapping audience. The crowd was a happy mix of the young and the old, enjoying every moment of the entertaining afternoon. While familiar names like Ram Pravesh of FET, regaled everyone with his sher-shayri, there was Seema Mahato whose kathak rendition of ‘Orey piya..’ left the audience spellbound. Some faculty and staff were also seen sketching with ‘Women Empowerment’ as the theme of their handiwork. Professor I.K. Kilam, Dean of DSW, expressed great admiration for the participants saying, “I am most impressed with all those who registered and performed at the Talent Show despite their workload and busy schedule.” Puneet of Radio Manav Rachna was on the mike anchoring the event, adding a dash of humour and motivating performers. The crowds bonded over cups of soup, beating the chill of a cold wintry weather. The Talent Show was a welcome break and a time to soak in the fun and entertainment.
