Talk about Throw Back Thursday: QL791.S8 1873 Harriet Beecher Stowes collection of short stories about animals, Queer Little People. In the opener a young, vivacious hen unwittingly sets on duck eggs. When they hatch shes heartbroken because her chicks have huge bills; theyre presumed to be deformed. The doctor diagnoses the chicks with, ..a calcareous enlargement of the vascular bony tissue, threatening ossification. And, then... well, read the ending for yourself. Former Virginia governor (1878-1882) Frederick W.M. Holliday donated this little gem to the Library (date unknown).
