Talk about destroying dogmas, Pope Francis is already doing that for us. Im a fan of him and Im not even a catholic. Hes somewhat describing in english what many indigenous nations know god to be: a higher source of energy, a great mystery, a creator of all things. On another ralated note: If we know that the Doctrine of Discovery was a papal document created by Pope Nicholas V in 1452 that sanctioned and promoted the conquest, colonization, and exploitation of non-Christian nations and their territories, and that this was the basis expressed by Chief Justice John Marshall in 1823 to justify the US Supreme Courts title over native lands– then is it possible for a delegation of native leaders to request an appeal from the current Pope on the Doctrine of Discovery?
