Talked with a few SONRISE friends yesterday looking for temporary jobs. JOB WITH LKE Temporary Bird Monitoring/General Laborer (Lower Columbia River) Compensation: $20 per hour. Paid weekly. Duration 90 days, full time. Field Tech/General Laborer for avian monitoring and dissuasion in sensitive areas. Main duties include conducting avian monitoring on island in the Columbia River. The project will also involve target nesting dissuasion installation fencing in sensitive areas. Monitoring will start in the April 2014 field season for 90 days. The position requires hiking in island terrain, working outside for extended periods in cold and wet conditions, boating and camping on the island site 4 days per week. Two to four survey periods are expected per day but varies based on behavior of the target birds. Daily monitoring reports and photo documentation required. Installation of fencing is requires general labor skills. QUALIFICATIONS: wildlife biology or other related field experience is desired. A minimum of 1 year of field survey experience is preferred. Ability and willingness to spend long hours in the field at times in inclement weather. Being in good physical condition and being able to hike off-trail conditions safely. Ability to record accurate, legible and reliable field data. Track record of working in a safe, efficient, and cooperative manner. Ability to work independently and on a team. Ability to camp on island location a minimum 4 days at a time. Ability to lift, carry, and position objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
