Talking on whatsapp to a photographer Ive never met this morning and hes been asking me questions off and on for about 3-4 months...Ive answered and edumacated him, trying to steer him to appropriate (for his skill level) classes I run. Today he opens with: Hey you shoot with Broncolor yeah? Yes I do. OK So I wanna borrow your lights for a shoot I got planned coz my flashes arent as good. Ummm, why are you asking me - go to Sun Studios and they have all the gear you could possibly want to hire. Yeah but they will charge me yeah? Or can you make them give me the stuff I want free coz thatd be cool either way. You appear to think I own Sun Studios and they have to do what I tell them, this is not the case. But you can tell them Im your student and Ill get it free yeah? Just because you say it is so does not make it so. Huh? Over the last few months youve asked a lot of questions, but never attended one of my classes, so youre not my student. This is the first problem with your plan. Yeah but I want to but theyre not on when it suits me and theyre too expensive anyhow there are other classes that are better and anyhow I just want the Broncolor for a day and Ill think about maybe going to your class next time. OK - I will think about maybe helping you out then. (about 1 hour 15 minutes pass) So can I have your lights? No. This kinda thing is happening more and more...people want want want. Ive got no problems lending gear to mates, or if Im not busy, coming along to your shoots to help out or whatever - but its because were mates. If Ive never even met you - we are not mates - just people firing electrons at each other.
