Talking point..........! Times like this brings to my mind , the memories of my late senior friend and political mentor, Obong Etukudo Ekpro. The man was a born strategist , with a touch of native wisdom to boot. But I will return to him shortly. Apart from the story of Jesus Christ Sm not sure that there is any other story as engaging and instructive as that of the children of Israel in the land of Egypt. While Joseph was alive, things were going well for the Israelites. Then Joseph died and subsequently came a long line of Pharoes , wjo knew nothing about Joseph, and things changed for the worse for the children of Israel. This is a familiar story to most Christians. For all those years of sufferings and hardship, there was some lingering hope that someday, there was going to come a Savior to lead them out of their bondage. To shorten our narration , God answered their petitions via the movement of the people , which had since come to be popularly known as Exodus. My interest here had never been how long , or how tortuous the entire journey turned out yo be, but primarily on the behaviors and conducts of the people set out to rescue. The children were ready and willing to continue in their slavery, rather than venture out unto unfamiliar terrain. Go read your Bible, on watch the movie. A very pathetic situation . How a complaining race of human beings, will prefare to remain in bondage, instead of opting yo do the unusual to gain their freedom. Am seeing exact similar situation playing out in Akwa Ibom State , come the general elections in 2015. For almost 8 years of Akpabio administration, many have groaned grumble, and , or cried out against the Governor for various reasons. Everybody eagerly talked of the terminal date...2015. But the way it goes now, I want yo say.....its a long way to uhurru. Weve all done the talking, but few are ready to walk the walk. The inane and pathetic arguments being that... Akwa Ibom never supports opposition Says who ? Why would we not use our votes to negotiate our freedom and independence from an unsympathetic, and unpatriotic party and government at the Centre. 8 solid years of Obong Atta, and heres another 8 of Akpabio, yet nothing to show for our massive support and votes for P.D.P. at the top? Not one single road, building, ? For almost 28 years, the issue of relocating Mobil Corporate head quarters being relocated to Eket / Ibeno axis.? Not one industrial establishment in this state. Let one person show me any federal project in my state for these years ? So why support a party that does not have your interest .? Oh, is it the issue of being our brother from the South_South? Then , pray, tell me what hes done to strengthen the brotherly bond ? Lets come back nearer home and ask the reasons I shout back and Akpabio selected candidate for governorship. Is there equity in Anang land, where the Abak five has got no representation at the senatorial level for about 16 good years ? Talk less of Oro Nation. My beef id that despite the various complaints from partly elders from the State, the National headquarters dont give a fig about the fact that all is not well with the party in Akwa Ibom State. So ? Late Chief Ekpro told a funny story about a leader who was always fond of keeping his followers at arms length while he holds talk will interested parties. One day, all his followers decided that enough, was enough , and collectively, the boycotted his meetings, and the old man woke up yo the realization that as a leader, he had nobody to lead. Enough said. Umana has set the ball , there are other political parties. Time to move en mass from the P.D. P. Andy K. Andy. Houston , Texas. 11/29/2014.
