Talking to people lately about how hard it has been to find a rental house in Austin that will allow our Great Danes, I have been confronted with two prevalent answers to my dilemma. 1) Why not just get smaller dogs? And 2) Maybe you should just not have dogs while youre renting. While I know there are people out there who arent animal people (and yes, I am surprised Im associating with them), if you are someone who finds logic in the above, please understand that there are those of us who believe our pets are part of our family. They are our fur kids. They are not replaceable or optional. And while you may not understand it, please be aware that suggesting we just get rid of our dogs is as offensive to us as saying just drop your kids off at the orphanage - theyll be fine. And PS - we did eventually find a rental who welcomed our dogs, but it took a LOT of effort by Martha Bowles!!
