Talking with Maggie recently reminded me about a conversation I - TopicsExpress

Talking with Maggie recently reminded me about a conversation I had with another friend a bit ago, but still recently. I was talking to this friend about how I was getting frustrated with the whole mess of perpetual outrage, the tearing apart of every single thing that anyone does and screaming about each and every fault... My friend had a lengthy and well-worded reply, from which this is excerpted... Accepting all people gives you access to all peoples points of views, which enables you to kindly reach them with points that are relevant for them. It gives you a chance to follow the storyline theyve been told, take a walk in their shoes, feel their pains and anxieties - rather than just judging them as damaging assholes. Between that, and Maggies statement that Im choosing to surround myself with conscientiously positive people instead of perpetually angry ones. I think I have a pretty good idea of where I want to focus my energies. And its not in many of the places it has been. So, regarding Macklemore, regarding Same Love. Regarding Joss Whedons stupid comment on Twitter. Regarding Beyoncé singing about Ike and Tina. Regarding Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and every other thing that gets thrown out there as the WOSRT.PERSON.EVAR... My first step will be to look at the situation, and see how much of myself I need to invest in the discussion. My next step will be to criticize if needed, but to do so with an open mind. And above all, Im not going to pour anything more into the overflowing pool of outrage -- because there are people in my life who Id like to keep close, and they, like me, are trying to surround themselves with conscientious positivity, not perpetual anger.
