Tambawal vs NPF: This is not political...! The news of Hon Aminu Tambawals defection from the PDP to the APC never settled without the usual twist that comes with anything political in Nigeria. The twist is the confirmed withdrawal of the security personnel attached to office of the Hon Speaker before his defection from the party on whose platform he was elected and made the speaker. Unlike many that are so quick to condemn action of the NPF, calling it politically motivated by the PDP to get at Hon Tambawal, I decided to search for plausible answers. I consequently searched the constitution to see what it says about defection and the consequences of Tambawals action. I discovered that the Nigerian Police carried out its constitutional duties when I read section 68 (1), (g) of the constitution. If many joining the condemnation foray now took time to read what the constitution says first, they would sure think differently. Going by provision of the constitution, The Nigerian Police Force acted within the ambit of the law withdrawing security attached to Hon Tambawal before his defection! As a matter of fact, his defection ended his sojourn in the Green chambers if dictates of the constitution were to be followed to the latter! We simply need to read to know what the constitution says and stop reading politics into everything. I know Hon Aminu understands implications of his defection, why are dividing ourselves over clearly constitutional issues? Are we saying the law should be bent to accommodate this defection because Tambawal defected to an opposition party? If the NPF exhausted its discretion at this time as seems the case and decided to ensure that supremacy of our constitution is protected and decided to act now, so be it. Let the law take its full course. We must thus stop this pointless banters/condemnation of the Nigerian Police for carrying out its constitutional duties. Its deplorable to equally see everything with the political lens by seeing everything to be politically motivated. The polity needs unbiased critical minds that can proffer solutions to our problems not naive political analysts blinded by both religious and political sentiments. Stop the Needless banters! God bless Nigeria.
