Tambu secret menu by Scott Deeter Most every visitor to the Tambu Lounge knows about the famous Lapu Lapu (the drink in the pineapple!) Mai Tais and Backscratchers are also popular tiki drinks you can order there, but did you know there is a secret menu of Polynesian cocktails you can order as well? Thats right. Although they have long been off the menu, there are a few old school drinks you can savor as you soak in the atmosphere of the Great Ceremonial House. The smell of tropical flowers and wood fire, the sounds of tired but happy guests, strains of ukulele music drifting out from Ohana. Sure, Walter and the gang will happily whip you up a dry martini or a white sangria, but wouldnt you rather sip a potent rum concoction that fits the location? Theres a Scorpion that is a light rum and pineapple potion thats a little sweet, but watch for the sting. The Navy Grog is next--this dark rum and citrus drink kept many a sailor on the open seas both sane and scurvy-free! Dont forget the Zombie!! Originally invented by the Granddaddy of all tiki drinks, Don the Beachcomber, this over-proof rum libation will have you staggering like the undead if you have too many. Be careful. Finally theres my favorite, The Seven Seas. A little spicy, a little tart, built around Myerss dark rum. Its a WDW original that has been on the menu at least since the mid-70s. I have a couple vintage menus to prove it. The name alone keeps me coming back. Now, not all the bartenders can make all these drinks, even though they are still in the computer. Walter can for sure. I know Francisco can make at least the Seven Seas. The others, well just ask! To any tiki purists these drinks dont necessarily follow the classic recipes, but the spirit of the drinks at least are represented. So next time youre hanging around the Tambu, why not give one of these a try? Its a taste of the Islands!
