Tambuwal: A CALL FOR THE LAW TO TAKE ITS COURSE By Usman Okai Austin Following the defection of former Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party in very clear violation of Section 68 (1)(g) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria made by the Nigerian people via their representatives in parliament, the Peoples Democratic Party National Youth Frontier considers it necessary to advice him to desist from parading himself as a member of the Federal House of Representatives as it shall amount to an act of impersonation and deceit for him to still claim membership of the House he willingly abdicated from following his defection earlier this week. As a sociopolitical group affiliated to the office of the National Youth Leader of PDP via the directorate of youth affairs, the Peoples Democratic Party National Youth Frontier (PDPNYF) frowns at a situation where a ranking member of the national assembly in total disregard for our democratic institutions cleverly acts in a manner that is capable of causing our dear country to be seen as a country where laws are made only to be broken by lawmakers. If our laws have been applied over time in cases directly related to ordinary citizens, no Nigeria should be allowed to leave beyond such laws. It is bearable where and when new entrants in politics in a show of ignorance commit blunders of this nature but a situation where a principal lawmaker rounding up in his third term in parliament stoops to the pitiable depth of encouraging crass lawlessness and irresponsibility must condemned in very clear and strong terms. The failure of Nigerians to rise to this occasion and demand that the ex-lawmaker executes the dictates of our laws in this matter will amount to complicity while a dangerous trend will have been set. In this vein, we commend the Nigeria Police Force for the manner in which the dictates of our law were swiftly enforced. We commend the Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force, Suleiman Abba for his professionalism and non-partisanship and encourage the men and officers of the Nigerian Police Force to remain vigilant and impartial in the discharge of their duties. As the voice of the youth that we are, the Peoples Democratic Party National Youth Frontier remains committed to the continuous building of our democracy and shall remain resolute in its support for the transformation agenda of the Peoples Democratic Party led government of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
