Tambuwals Defection: Tread With Caution, Chibudom Nwuche Warns A former deputy speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche says Aminu Tambuwal’s defections has a lot of political implication and should therefore be handled with care in the interest of the nation. The former speaker who was reacting to the Tambuwal defection said the house of representatives has the capacity to resolve the fall-out of the defection of Tambuwal to the opposition party APC. Nwuche’s reaction to Tambuwal defection to the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) and the move by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to reconvene the House is coming at a time a Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that the status quo has been attained. “This has not happened before, it has no precedence in our history where a speaker leaves his party to another party and I believe that the house has the capacity guided by the rules of the constitution to resolve the current impasse.” The former deputy speaker said in the spirit of sustaining legislative culture, discipline and tradition, some legislators especially senators who have proved to be very productive to the motion ought to be given concession. He further said, “The delegate processes are influenced so they can be guided as to whom to vote for. So the government must protect the vulnerable segment and the most vulnerable arm of government is the legislature.” On the crisis currently rocking the PDP in Rivers state Nwuche said that the issue of upland/riverine dichotomy, should not be a deciding factor in choosing who becomes the next governor of the state. “People who want to argue for governorship of the state should argue based on a different nationalities in the state who have not produced a governor for instance, not the issue of the upland/riverine. I think the dichotomy is divisive.” -
