Tamenglong shopkeepers charging more, people remaining unaware Source: Hueiyen News Service Tamenglong, August 12, 2014: The shopkeepers in Tamenglong district headquarters have been selling their goods to the people by charging more than the printed retail prices for the last many years with no complaint from any quarters. The matter was discussed during a day-long consumers awareness campaign held under the theme of Consumers: Know your rights at the Community Hall of United Baptist Church (Liangmei), Tamenglong district HQs here on Tuesday. The awareness campaign was an eye opening for most people in Tamenglong as they normally do not bother when extra MONEY is charged by the shopkeepers from them on buying anything. The programme was graced by C.Arthur W, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong and P.Arun, President Consumers Club Manipur as chief guest and guest of honour respectively. Speaking on the occasion, C.Arthur W, IAS said that the complaint over violation of consumers right must be made on time so as to take up action on time. He hoped that the Consumers Club Tamenglong district will assist the people of Tamenglong in this regard. You see me as Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong on dais but I am also one consumer. My concerned is about the selling of essential COMMODITIES with expiry date or taking MONEY more than the retail price, C Arthur W said. P.Arun urged the public of Tamenglong to make complaint to Consumers Club Tamenglong branch in case they come across shopkeepers selling goods with expired date or charging more than the printed price. Ms..DMaryna, President of SDCC, who also spoke on the occasion, cautioned the TRADERS present against indulging in unfair practices with an eye on fleecing the customers they such practices could land them in trouble. Among the resource persons, Dr.Ch. Narendra Singh, pointed out that he was charged more MONEY than the retail price rate on a fruit juice packet he bought on the way to Tamenglong.
