Tamil nationalist groups in Tamil Nadu are planning to oppose the release of John Abraham’s Shoojith Sircar directed Madras Cafe, for it “anti-LTTE content and portrayal of its chief Prabhakaran as a Villain”. Madras Cafe a Hindi film has been dubbed into Tamil by its makers Viacom 18. A special screening of the Tamil version of the film was shown to leaders of Tamil nationalist parties and outfits in Chennai on Sunday evening. Tamil actor and director Seeman, leader of Naam Tamizhar Party said : “ The aim of Madras Cafe is to portray Prabhakaran as a villain and LTTE in bad light. I’m not against freedom of expression. But the freedom is selectively used to denigrate Tamils and their struggle for independence.” LTTE chef Prabhakaran is called Bhaskaran (played by Ajay Ratnam) in the film, Rajiv Gandhi (played by a look alike) is referred as the young former prime minister and LTTE as LTF! All good patriotic characters in the film are Malayalees including the hero a RAW agent ! Madras Cafe is scheduled to release on August 23.
