Tamolbari, a Tea Estate situated 15 Kilometers away from Dibrugarh. Rup Konwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala was born in the Puroni Bungalow of this garden. The People as well as the Government of Assam use to celebrate his death anniversary as Shilpi Divas with a lot of various cultural and social programs. But I was stunned to see that there was no initiative to preserve the birth place (Bungalow) as an important monument. Doors and windows of the bungalow was in a dilapidated condition. Ceiling of the bungalow was hanging in a very bad condition and waiting for destruction. The present authority of the garden are also reluctant to take any positive step to save the building in a decent manner. The park named after him has got not a single flower plant. However, the local youths of the area are organizing some small events to pay homage to the great soul, every year. Doordarshan Kendra, Dibrugarh has taken up a program of wall writing and painting to commemorate the day. Milan Jyoti Sangha, a renowned club of the town is observing their Golden Jubilee at the District Library auditorium with a day long program on the works of Jyoti Prasad. Photo from Ashu Paul .
