Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) celebrated 170 years of its establishment last evening. The hospital which was founded on the donations of early Singapore businessman Tan Tock Seng and a few business friends was Singapore’s first privately funded hospital to care for the community. Over the years, the hospital has modernized and evolved to meet changing needs but remains steadfast in its mission to serve the people. I was pleased to announce the launch of the Ng Teng Fong Healthcare Innovation Programme at TTSH’s 170th Anniversary Celebrations. The programme, which will support training programmes and development of innovative solutions for better patient care and healthcare delivery, was made possible by the generous donation of $52 million from the family of the late Ng Teng Fong. This gift reflects compassion and care for the people – values on which the Tan Tock Seng Hospital was founded 170 years ago. I congratulate TTSH on its 170th Anniversary and wish TTSH continued success in its mission to be the people’s hospital. TT
