Tanuja Thakur shared Forum for Hindu Awakenings photo. Diwali - A spiritual Celebration Forum for Hindu Awakening Diwali/Deepavali has immense importance socially and spiritually for Hindus. It is a festival of lights (Deep mean lamp and avali means row) celebrated for 5 days. Hindu Dharma teaches us तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय | meaning going away from darkness of spiritual ignorance to the light of spiritual knowledge. Lighting lamps in Diwali symbolizes this. This festival starts from 1 November this year. Significance of various days of Diwali and rituals like Abhyangasnan was shared in satsang. Dhanteras/Dhanatrayodashi:- Goddess Laxmis chaitanya is present in atmosphere on this day which provides opulence, prosperity. In Chaturmas (4 months before Diwali), absolute fire element (Tejatattva) is very low. On Dhanteras, Tejatattva is generated from ShriVishnus unmanifest energy & it starts spreading in the atmosphere in the form of shiny golden particles which contain Deity Lakshmis chaitanya. According to the Ayurveda it is the birthday of the Deity Dhanvantari which is a deity of medicine. So worship of Dhanvantari Deity is also done by Ayurvedic doctors. Ritual of Yamadipadan for Deity Yama (Deity of Death) is also performed on this day. This is done to prevent untimely death in family. Cleaning house:- On occasion of Deepavali, people clean their houses & paint it. This is important because it attracts principle of ShriLakshmi (Deity of Opulence) in the house. Hanging Lantern:- A lantern (Akashdeep) is hung above the main door, on the right side. This symbolizes the active Divine energy. The lantern cleanses the atmosphere spiritually. Narak Chaturdashi:- On this day, lighting lamps can destroy tamasik energies. Before this day, the atmosphere starts getting polluted with negative frequencies. To neutralize the effect of these waves, one has to bathe early in the morning, light ghee lamps in earthen pots and ritualistically worship them. On these days Abhyangasnan which is special type of bath is performed. Before this bath, a special type of herbal powder known as ubtan or utane is applied. The spiritual significance of it can be found here. forumforhinduawakening.org/understanding/glory-of-hindu-dharma/diwali-ubtan Laxmi Pujan:- On this day Laxmi-panchayatan enters the Universe. Shri Vishnu, Shri Indra, Shri Kuber, Shri Gajendra and Shri Laxmi are elements of this panchayatan (a group of five). These five deities bring Happiness, Opulence, Wealth. So they are worshiped on this day. Balipratipada:- Ritualistic worship of King Bali is performed to avoid troubles from negative energies. King Bali was a great donor but used to donate to undeserving people also. So he was sent to Hell by ShriVishnu. On this day, ritualistic worship of King Bali is done where an offering (Naivaidya) is made to him to satisfy his thirst and hunger. This keeps King Bali and the negative energies under his control. Bhaiyyaduj:- On this day, sister waves lit lamp around brother. Spiritually, on this day Yamadev (deity of Death) has full control over hell and is in charge of the region of Death (Mrityulok). Hence, on this day, ritualistic worship of Yamadev is done to express gratitude.
