Tanya Hart This October I am Heading out to Tanzania on a voluntary expedition run by Raleigh International. Raleigh is a sustainable development charity who run projects in Africa, South America and Asia in poverty stricken areas. Raleigh runs expeditions that consist of programs to challenge diverse young people to enforce change. Young people between the ages of 18-25 are given the opportunity to help rural areas with community projects and sustainable development projects such as water and sanitation resources. -Tanzanians that lack access to improved drinking water sources 46% -Tanzanians with no access to improved sanitation 87% -Population who wash hands with soap before preparing food 20% -Schools with a water supply in the school premises 38% -Schools with no functional hand-washing facilities 84% -Schools with no doors on girls latrines 52% These are just a few examples of problems we are trying to change! I am looking forward to being apart of a Raleigh expedition team. Mainly having the chance to live and work with a different culture. I am going to be faced with many challenges living with basic amenities and having communication barriers, but I am looking forward to being apart of a new community who care about building a sustainable future! This is the highest mountain in the British Isles standing at 1,344 metres above sea level!!! I am telling you now my legs wont like that steep incline!!
